Ok, how many times has this happened to you? There are four or five kids over for a playdate and they all want grilled cheeses for lunch. No problem in theory, but there is the logistical problem. The kids are all hungry at once, but your pan can only hold two sandwiches at a time! This scenario happens to me all the time. I obviously love hosting a bunch of kids, but feeding them all at once can be tricky. This is why I’ve figured out how to make grilled cheese in bulk. It is so much easier and efficient to make them all at once, and now I use this method for family lunches too. Here’s how to do it so you’re prepared the next time your kitchen receives a stampede of hungry children:
How to Make Grilled Cheese in Bulk
Makes 6 grilled cheese sandwiches
12 slices of whole wheat bread
12 slices of American cheese, or cheese of your choice
6 teaspoons unsalted butter, softened
1. Preheat the oven to 425F.
2. Swipe 6 bread slices with the 3 tablespoons of butter. Place them butter side down on a rimmed baking sheet. Place two slices of cheese on top of each slice of bread and top the sandwiches with the remaining slices of bread. Swipe the tops with the remaining butter.
3. Bake for about 6 to 8 minutes (it depends on your oven), then flip and bake for another 3 minutes or until the tops are golden brown. Serve!
