Patriotic Ice Cream Floats

When I was a kid, my mom use to make ice cream floats with either orange soda or cream soda all through the summer. We were never really big on Coke or root beer floats. For a period of time, Nehi even made a blue cream soda, and we’d have blue and white ice cream floats. Unfortunately blue Nehi cream soda hasn’t been around for a long time, but there is a new deep blue soda available from Mountain Dew. Pepsi’s fairly new Mountain Dew Blue Voltage is flavored with raspberry, citrus and ginseng. And it’s pretty good. I even prefer it over cream soda. I purchased a 20 oz bottle, which was enough for about 3 servings.

To make our blue and white floats festive for the fourth of July, I added strawberry syrup. If you’ve never had it, they sell it right by the chocolate syrup in a red bottle.

1. Spoon ice cream into glass. Very, very slowly pour soda into glass over ice cream.

2. Place one scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Garnish with strawberry syrup.
