Picture Paul Revere charging wildly through the Massachusetts countryside on horseback because the British are coming … but instead it’s moms everywhere charging to grocery stores laying on their minivan horns, because Planters Cheez Balls are coming back!

That’s right! Everyone’s favorite orange, powdery cheese snack is headed back to stores for a limited time on July 1st in its signature canister. According to Planters, there has been incredible demand for the return of their Cheez Balls and Cheez Curls since they came off the shelves in 2006.

“We heard many impassioned pleas for us to bring Cheez Balls and Cheez Curls back over the years and we wanted to give our fans a chance to reunite with their most-missed cheesy snack,” said Planters Head of Brand Building Melanie Huet. “We made sure our Cheez Balls and Cheez Curls still have the same delicious taste, airy texture and fluorescent color you know and love, so our fans can enjoy a nostalgic trip down memory lane with every canister.”

In a press release on June 26th, the company said that fans “started petitions, created online groups, and wrote snail mail letters” urging the company to re-release their favorite cheesy blasts from the past.

And who can blame them? No offense to the present-day makers of lesser cheese balls, but I mean come on! No other ball has ever lived up to the original ones in the cardboard canister from when we were kids. There is just something about original ’90s treats, like Dunkaroos and Gushers, that can’t live up to the remakes of today.

I mean really — if your mom didn’t wash out and save the canister for you to keep your crayons or scrunchies in, was she even your mom?

How many drummers were born from playing the bongo on that empty canister? Because, let’s be real, the can was always empty. When I was growing up, they had a shelf life of one afternoon in my house (if they lasted that long) because they were just that good.

I remember one time seeing the back of the blue can and running for them, only to reveal that they were … GASP … POTATO STICKS! What kind of cruel mind trick was my mother trying to play on me? I basically started flipping tables like Theresa Guidice in a fit of rage — thankfully that never happened again.

You can find Planter’s Cheez Balls and Cheez Curls at Walmart and on Amazon starting July 1st, with more stores planning to start carrying them in the coming months. Make sure to be a hero and get to the store to stock up on those cans while you can.
