Thanksgiving Appetizers: Baked Brie with Curried Walnuts

There is no better way to kick off a dinner party than with an oozy baked brie, topped with something delicious and served with fresh bread or crackers. This version is topped with crunchy walnuts, red peppers, finely chopped green onion and a hint of curry powder. It’s easy to assemble beforehand and pop in the oven just as guests are coming in the door. There’s no better welcome than warm, gooey cheese!

Baked Brie with Curried California Walnuts

1 tbsp butter or olive oil
1/2 tsp curry powder, or to taste
1/3 cup diced red pepper
2 tbsp finely chopped green onion
1/2 cup coarsely chopped California Walnuts
2 rounds Brie cheese [1/4 lb (125g)]
Salt and pepper, to taste

In large saucepan over medium heat, heat butter and curry powder. Add red pepper and onion and sauté 2 to 3 minutes; stir in walnuts, cooking 1 minute. Remove pan from heat; season with salt and pepper. In ovenproof serving dish, place Brie. (Cut thin slice from top to remove rind, if desired.) Divide walnut mixture evenly and place on top of rounds. Bake in 350°F oven 10 minutes or until cheese just starts to melt.

Makes 2 rounds.
