Turkey Burger Bites on a StickMacki West
My little dude, the middle child, is turning 4 in a couple of weeks and I’m testing out some menu ideas for his birthday party. He’s a burger lover, but burgers and kids are a messy combination. I don’t want to do that to the parents, although I am setting up a dirt track for a monster truck race. To make things easier to eat and handle, I stuck little burger bites onto a stick. They are perfect for parties of any kind, since both adults and kids think food on sticks rocks! To top it off these tasty gems are healthy too, because they are made with ground turkey breast and whole wheat bread. Score!
How you make Burger Bites on a Stick:
Season 1 lb of ground turkey breast with salt and pepper and 3 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce. Form into small patties with a 1 to 1 1/2 inch diameter. Cook until internal temp reaches 165 degrees.
Toast whole wheat bread—one slice makes enough buns for 2 burger bites. After they are toasted use scissors to cut to size.
Slice roma tomatoes, cheddar cheese, and wash baby spinach leaves.
Assemble onto small skewers or large toothpicks. Start with bread, add the lettuce, tomato, cheese, patty and another slice of bread. Add mustard and ketchup or serve on the side. Other additions like pickles and avocado can be added as well. Makes about 25 mini burgers.
