George Steinbrenner's Yankee Heirs — Who Are Hank and HalSunny Chanel
The New York Yankees, they are a family affair. A couple years ago, when George Steinbrenner‘s health started to deteriorate, the patriarch transferred the control of the team to his son Hank and Hal Steinbrenner. The notorious and iconic George Steinbrenner once said he’d step down as the Yankees leader to let “the young elephants in the tent.” These two, they some have big shoes to fill. Their dad ran the most successful baseball franchise in history that is worth a whopping 1.6 Billion. So who are Hank and Hal Steinbrenner?
Henry G. “Hank” Steinbrenner
Hank is the oldest of the four Steinbrenner children (there are two girls and two boys) and is now 53.
He attended the Culver Military Academy where his father and grand father attended. And then he went to Central Methodist University in Missouri.
His current title is Senior Vice President of the New York Yankees.
Before he got enlisted in the family business, he did his time in business and he did his time at the Minch Transit Company, was the vice president of Bay Farms Corporation and was the vice president of Mid-Florida Hotels Corporation in 1990.
He and his sister Jessica also run Kinsman Farm, the family’s thoroughbred racing property in Ocala, Florida.
He was married but divorced in 2004. He currently resides in Florida.
Last September Hank decided to do a little freelancing, he became a sport columnist for Sporting News Magazine, which has been around for over one-hundred years.
Joel Sherman from the New York Post wrote, “Hank Steinbrenner is the owner of the Yankees by DNA accident. He blabs a lot, but does nothing that actually demonstrates leadership.”
He has the reputation of being outspoken just like his dear old dad.
Harold Z. Steinbrenner goes by the name Hal and at the age of 40 is more quiet where as his older brother Hank is more gregarious.
Hal also attended Culver Military Academy and then went on to graduate from Williams College with a BA. He then when and got a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Florida.
When his dad transferred power, Hal was elected the Chairman of the Board of Yankee Global Enterprises, LLC.
Although Hal is the youngest of the family. He’s been with the Yankee for quite a while, he just celebrated his 19th season with the team. He is also the chairman and chief executive officer of the family-owned Steinbrenner Hotel Properties
It was recently said that Hal is “a smart young man who’s seen all the good things and other things and is certainly disciplined.”
