As a society, we are constantly putting celebrities under a microscope. We have seen their parenting skills criticized, their health status publicized, not to mention of course, their romantic endeavors. Glee‘s Darren Criss is just one of the many celebs who have been scrutinized for his sexual orientation. After his Glee character Blaine gave Kurt his first kiss, many were curious about Criss’ real life sexual preference. So to put the rumors to rest, Criss made a public statement about his sexuality — and many were surprised at the outcome.
The actor told Vanity Fair:
“I had straight parents, but I spent massive amounts of time at a very early age with gay, theater-hopeful thirty-somethings,” Criss said. “I was, well, not super effeminate, but I was into girly things — I liked musical theater, all the stereotypical things. I had to come out and say, well, I’m sorry, but I think I’m straight.”
This statement is perfect. So many actors or actresses feel that they need to set the record straight and reveal their sexual preference to the public, simply because they are in the public eye. However, straight celebrities never feel the pressure to put out a comment about who they are dating and why.
“People were like, say it ain’t so!” said Criss. “And I would say, ‘It’s been a secret too long, but I’m actually a straight male.'”
