He said on Live with Regis and Kelly: “A lot of women, that’s high on their list – to be married. I’ve never been married. We’re not having kids. I think it’s important to do if you’re going to have kid.”
Wow! A lot of parents in this country still don’t have the right to marry. So to say it’s important to marry your partner before having kids? That thought makes me uncomfortable. It leaves out, and diminishes, an awful lot of loving, doting same sex couples who have kids. If it’s so important for parents to be married, how about if the government stops withholding this right from them?
Still, even without kids in the picture (Corbett is 49 and Derek is 53 — and was married to the late John Derek for 30 years), the two are now contemplating a wedding. “We were actually talking about that last night,” he said on air. “We went to a party and we were talking about maybe doing it one day. First time we’ve talked about it in 8 years! Funny enough.” And it’s not just talk. He said he has a hunch there’ll be a wedding “In the not-too-distant future.”
