Pixar's Brave Premiere: Featuring Stars, Kilts & Haggis (Photos)

Kelly Macdonald - The Voice of Merida

The people of Pixar know how to do many awesome things. They know how to tell a great story, they know how to do magic with computer graphics and they know how to throw a party. This terrific trifecta was confirmed on Monday night at the world premiere and party for their newest masterpiece Brave.

Set in Scotland, the tale starring a spunky red head -  wowed the audience who hooted and hollered at the coming out party for Merida, her clan, her culture and her film. This masterpiece of movie moving  – which played at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood – was well attended by movers and shakers, movie makers, moms, dads, their kids (and me!). But that wasn’t all…

there were also a fair share of kilts, the bag pipes were blaring, plaid was prevalent, traditional Scottish cultural crafts were created, and – of course – there was Haggis.  The guests of the premiere were treated to all things Scottish at the after party in a sprawling ball room above the theater. Disney stars from shows like Jesse and Shake It Up mingled amongst luminaries such as Pixar head honcho John Lasseter (who wore a kilt), Kevin McKidd, and Kelly Macdonald (the voice of Merida).

The food was all delicious with easy on the taste bud dishes like chicken pot pie and roast beef with Yorkshire pudding. And for those more daring, there was the traditional Scottish delicacy of haggis, which was presented with much fanfare (and a poem) by Craig Ferguson.  Between the crafts, the Scottish whiskey tasting, the archery and the wide variety of Scottish music and dancing, there was no chance to not be wrapped up in the wee bit of Scotland that was transported to the middle of Hollywood.  But the party wasn’t the highlight of the night, that honor went to the movie itself,  an event we can all enjoy coming up on June 22nd. And the best thing? Haggis is not included with your theater ticket.
