Everyone has different reasons for adopting — some do it out of charity, others because of infertility but whatever the reason, adoption is worthy of admiration. It’s certainly not something all people are willing to spend time or money on pursuing. These celebs are the exception. Whether they traveled abroad to adopt from China or Africa, or adopted domestically from New Orleans or L.A., one thing’s for sure: these celebrities have opened up their homes — and their hearts — to deserving kids from around the world.     Katherine Heigl and Josh Kelley
    In 2009, Katherine Heigl and Josh Kelley adopted Naleigh, now 3 years old, from Korea. Heigl told Scholastic's Parents & Child magazine: "My sister Meg is Korean, and my parents adopted her three years before I was born. I wanted my own family to resemble the one I came from, so I always knew I wanted to adopt from Korea."

    Sandra Bullock didn't let the end of her marriage to Jesse James stop her from adopting son Louis Bardo (now 4 years old), from New Orleans. On having a son of her own, Bullock told People she's excited to be like other proud mamas: "Telling everyone I meet about the most beautiful man I know, including his poop schedule."

    After battling and beating breast cancer, Sheryl Crow decided to start a family of her own … on her own. She adopted now 5-year-old Wyatt back in 2007 and Levi James, who will be 2 years old this year, in 2010. On being a mom, Crow told People: "My life is definitely richer."

    Inspired by her late mom, Denise Richards decided to add another child to her growing brood and domestically adopted Eloise Joni (named after her mother, Joni) last June. Her blossoming little girl will turn 1 year old this year!

    In 2007, Mary Louise Parker decided to expand her family of 2 (she had a son, William Atticus, with actor Billy Crudup) and went to Ethiopia to adopt a baby girl, Caroline ‘Ash' Aberash. On adopting, Parker told People, "I wanted to go somewhere where there was a need. It's not like I only wanted to enlarge my family. I really wanted to give a child a home."

    We couldn't leave this famously adoption-friendly family off our list! Angelina Jolie adopted her first son, Maddox, now 10, back in 2002 from Cambodia with then-husband Billy Bob Thornton. Jolie went on to adopt two more children with her new hubby, Brad Pitt: Zahara Marley, now 7 years old, from Ethiopia in 2006, and Pax Thien (also 7) from Vietnam in 2007.

    Diane Keaton wasn't going to let a man … or her age … deter her from becoming a mother. In 1996, happily single at age 50, she adopted her daughter, Dexter (now 15 years old), followed by her son, Duke (now 10 years old), in 2001. When asked how adoption has changed her life, Keaton told CBS News, "I think it extends your world view about people — because you realize that each and every one of us is exceptionally special."

I'm completely enchanted and awe-struck."
