These No-Sew DIY Dog Toys Are Sure to Make a Puppy’s Day and Strengthen Your Community

Editor’s Note: Babble is a part of The Walt Disney Company.

Dogs are truthfully our best friend — they provide so much comfort, compassion, and of course, love. Even after a long, hard day, you can always count on a cuddle with your pup to brighten your mood. With all the positivity they bring, what better way to show you care than with a DIY toy from you and your kids?

Even better? Make a few extra and bring them to your local animal shelter.

To make this dog-friendly craft, all you need are a few gently used t-shirts and a pair of scissors. Cut strips out of the shirts, then have your little ones help braid or crochet, and you’ll have a handful of colorful toys.

Their little tails will be wagging with happiness once they start playing with your family’s creations.

Supplies

  • 3-4 gently used t-shirts
  • Scissors

Braided Dog Toy Directions

  1. Cut the bottom seam off of your t-shirt.
  2. Then start cutting along the bottom seam about 4 inches from the bottom. (You should only be cutting through one layer of the t-shirt.) Continue cutting, turning the t-shirt to help you further cut, until you get to the sleeves at the top. You will end up with one long strip of t-shirt.
  3. Repeat these steps with the other 2 t-shirts you will be using for your dog toy. You should have 3 strips total.
  4. Knot the strips together at the top.
  5. Braid, then tie them off when you get to the length you want.

  3. Repeat these steps with the other 3 t-shirts you will be using for your dog toy. You should have 4 strips total.
  4. Knot the strips together at the top.
  5. Then hand crochet. Make a loop with your fabric strips, pull part of the fabric through (making another loop). Then continue these steps until you get the length you want. Pull tight to secure the toy.
