The Dog Days (and Nights) of DisneyWhit Honea
Do you like to take your whole family on your family vacations? No, I don’t mean Uncle Albert and his tendency to embarrass you in public — he can stay in his recliner and think about what he has done. I’m talking about pets, people. Pets are family, too.
Walt Disney World agrees, and to prove it they have gone to the dogs. Also, cats (LOL).
The good people at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida want your travels with Charlie to be as worry-free as possible. Enter the pet resort, where your furry friend can get pampered with magic, pixie dust (flea powder?) and treated like royalty — something Disney knows a lot about.
The 27,000 square foot Best Friends Pet Care Resort (it is not Disney owned) offers air-conditioned rooms, “VIP” suites with TV, and private outdoor yards. See? Pampered.
What, that’s not enough? How about playgroups, a huge dog park, and ice cream socials (for the dogs). Bedtime stories are also available.
The grounds for the pet resort feature a theme park of sorts, assuming trails, wetlands and play areas constitute a theme. I like to think that they do (no word on parades or churros).
One of the best things about the pet resort is that they don’t discriminate against breeds and sizes like so many other “dog-friendly” places are prone to do. That means my dogs are actually welcome, which is fantastic.
Cats are able to lounge about in the “Kitty City” away from dogs and the everyday stresses of their hectic feline life.
Don’t worry, Mickey, rodents are welcome, too. There is special boarding available for hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits (Oswald?), ferrets, and other pets that can fit in your pocket, as long as you provide the cage (no, you cannot leave your pocket).
It is comforting to know that while you and your family (the people part) are riding rides, eating too much, and having a grand time (use the Mobile Magic App to make that grand time an efficient one), that the furrier members of the household are enjoying themselves, too.
The Best Friends Pet Care: Walt Disney World Resort is across from Disney’s Port Orleans Resort at 2510 Bonnet Creek Parkway, and can be reached at (877) 493-9738.
