You decide that you need a romantic getaway with your spouse. It’s been too long since you’ve had time alone; you’re missing those special moments to reconnect and remember why you fell in love in the first place. So the first thing you do is plan a Disney vacation with your kids in tow.
*Record scratch* Wait, what?
I just got back from a weekend on the re-imagined Disney Magic, part of the Disney Cruise Line, and I’m here to tell you that it was a romantic getaway even though our children joined us on the cruise. Some of you likely understand out of the gate how a vacation on a family cruise line can still provide romantic moments for couples, but for those of you still scratching your heads, here are seven reasons a Disney cruise is a romantic getaway.
7 Reasons a Disney Cruise is a Romantic Getaway 1 of 8
I'd like you to look beyond the obvious reasons why a cruise might be a romantic getaway for you and your partner, and discover why a Disney cruise — with your kids on board! — is also a romantic getaway. Here are seven of my favorite reasons.
Tropical Ports of Call Inspire Romance 2 of 8
What do you see when you wake up in the morning? Right now, all I see is snow and ice outside my bedroom window. But when you're on a ship that has sailed to a tropical island while you were sleeping, you wake up to a stunning sunrise over the ocean and a warm breeze greeting you on your private veranda. There's something incredibly romantic about spending time with the one you love in a romantic destination far from home.
Shining as a Parent is Relationship-Building 3 of 8
Sometimes it can seem that day-to-day life only provides us with opportunities to fall down on the job. You think your partner signed that field trip permission trip, but he thinks that you did. Neither of you remembers to take out the trash. And you both wish you'd yell at the kids a little less. A Disney Cruise gives you the opportunity to shine as a parent. Forget spelling word drills, and instead invite your kids to play shuffleboard with you all afternoon! Stop saying "no" and start saying "yes" to all of your kids' requests! And yes, it is incredibly romantic to watch your spouse shine in those parenting moments.
No Meal Time Chores = Time to Relax with your Spouse 4 of 8
See this lovely lady? She was one of our servers on our Disney cruise. She provided our children with ketchup by creating a Mickey Mouse ketchup face on a little plate. She made sure that our kids always had a glass of milk in front of them. She came by often to take away dirty plates and scrape crumbs off the table before they had the chance to become stuck to our children's arms. One of our servers even helped our son cut his pancakes! Because she does her job, you and your spouse are free to sit back, relax, and hold hands while you enjoy your meal.
Warm Climates Mean Opportunities to Get Closer 5 of 8
At the risk of being a bit risqué, I'm going to just come right out and say it. Flowing sundresses instead of sweaters, shorts instead of suits ... there are lots of opportunities while enjoying your time together as a family to sit a bit closer to your love. Let your winter-white legs rest against each other while enjoying the heat from the sun. Palm trees and sand are certainly far more romantic to me than snow piles and ice storms! Soak it up!
Adults-Only Dining Options Make for the Perfect Date Night 6 of 8
When you picture a Disney Cruise Line vacation, you likely imagine kids running around and characters posing for photos. While you aren't wrong, you're missing a critical piece of the picture. Disney Cruise Line offers sophisticated adults-only dining options on board each ship. This restaurant on the Disney Magic, Palo, provides the 18-and-older set with world-class dining and a chocolate souffle that is legendary. The stunning view from Deck 10 enhances the already-incredible dining experience. You're starting to understand now, aren't you?
You Can Spa Together to Relax as a Couple 7 of 8
Thanks to the amazing kids club offerings on board Disney Cruise Line ships, parents have the chance to schedule alone time — including in the spa. The Senses Spa & Salon on board the reimagined Disney Magic offers a couples massage that should have you both remembering why you first fell in love, or at the very least why you fell in love with spa getaways!

Adults-Only After Hours Club is a Great Couples’ Night out 8 of 8
While on board the reimagined Disney Magic, I had the opportunity to tour a magical area of the ship that, like Cinderella's blue gown at midnight, transforms when the clock strikes 9 p.m. This adults-only area, After Hours, is a complete entertainment district with everything from your neighborhood pub to a piano bar. Make arrangements for childcare and go remember what it was like to date your spouse!
