8 Favorite Magic Kingdom Parade MomentsAmy Lupold Bair
Next year Walt Disney World will be debuting the new Disney Festival of Fantasy at the Magic Kingdom. For several months, Disney has been slowly allowing guests a sneak peek of the magic to come by unveiling renderings of the parade floats. As I look at this concept art, I can’t help but think of some of my favorite Magic Kingdom parade moments. I began taking my family to Walt Disney World in the fall of 2008, and since then we have enjoyed parades and celebrations throughout the parks, including a variety of special holiday events.
While it’s hard to narrow it down from several thousand photos and countless memories, here are 8 of my favorite Magic Kingdom parade moments.
8 Favorite Magic Kingdom Parade Moments 1 of 9
With so many floats to choose from, it was difficult to select just eight favorite moments from five years of visits to Walt Disney World with my family. These moments, however, stand out in my mind as some of the most magical.
Monsters University on Main Street 2 of 9
During the summer of 2013, Disney Parks were buzzing with the release of the hit film, Monsters University. To celebrate, Disney launched the Monstrous Summer celebration, which included the Monsters University parade on Main Street, U.S.A. I was thrilled to catch this great shot of Grand Marshall James P. Sullivan, better known as Sully, and his favorite pal, Mike.
Dancing with Favorite Characters 3 of 9
While not a full-fledged parade, the Magic Kingdom's Move It, Shake It, Celebrate It! street party will always be one of my favorite moments in my family's day at the park. Unlike most other parades, the floats stop, the characters step down to street level, and guests are actually encouraged to dance with some of their favorite characters.
Mickey’s Grand Entrance 4 of 9
All fans of Disney remember that it all started with a mouse. There is a great moment during the Magic Kingdom's Celebrate a Dream Come True Parade when Mickey floats up Main Street on a festive float, clearly visible for all of the park's guests.
Princesses and Fairy Godmother Together 5 of 9
For many parents, a trip to Walt Disney World means running from park to park, greeting location to greeting location trying to spot their children's favorite princesses. During the Once Upon a Christmastime Parade at Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, one incredible float includes many favorite princesses all in one place along with their princes - and perhaps best of all - Fairy Godmother.
The Frightening Beginning of Mickey’s Boo to You! Halloween Parade 6 of 9
Anyone who has ever attended Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party at the Magic Kingdom knows that despite ghoulish costumes and dim lighting, the park really is not-so-scary. However, the amazing beginning of Mickey's Boo to You! Halloween Parade is rather shocking! The parade kicks off with a ride down Main Street by none other than the Headless Horseman himself.
Goofy’s Candy Machine Float 7 of 9
Disney is a master at setting the scene and the mood, enticing all of the senses to communicate and celebrate. One of my favorite floats from the Once Upon a Christmastime Parade is Goofy's candy machine, which both looks and smells incredible. A fun tip: you'll also see this float during Mickey's Boo to You! parade.
Santa Rides His Sleigh through the Magic Kingdom 8 of 9
Far and away the best moment of the Once Upon a Christmastime parade is when Santa Claus makes his entrance and wraps up the parade. For many families, this marks the kick-off of the holiday season!
The Return of Disney’s Main Street Electrical Parade 9 of 9
There's nothing quite like nostalgia to tug on the heartstrings, and Disney nostalgia is among my favorite. I have wonderful memories from childhood of watching the Main Street Electrical Parade in the Magic Kingdom. In fact, my brother and I had the Electrical Parade music on vinyl and used to march around the house while listening to the record. My family visited the Magic Kingdom in the summer of 2010 to enjoy the return of Disney's Main Street Electrical Parade to the Magic Kingdom. The park was buzzing with excitement while everyone waited for the parade to begin, and the whole street burst into applause when the lights dimmed and that familiar music began to play. This will always be my absolute favorite Magic Kingdom parade moment!
