10 Reasons We Want to Go to Comic-Con 2013

Comic-Con is a convention that has been happening every year in San Diego since 1970. You may not realize it, but many of the biggest movies start their marketing campaigns every summer in Comic-Con. The four day event is THE place to be if you are a comic fan, action movie fan, sci-fi fan, etc. What makes the conference special is the way it is set up to break the fourth wall between artists, actors, and filmmakers and the fans. There are panels filled with the cast of your favorite movie or TV show, workshops with beloved comic book artists, even advanced screenings of trailers or complete films.

From the Comic-Con website, “Comic-Con has presented literally thousands of special guests at its conventions over the years, bringing comics creators, science fiction and fantasy authors, film and television directors, producers, and writers, and creators from all aspects of the popular arts together with their fans for a fun and often times candid discussion of various art forms.”

Comic-Con 2013 begins July 18th and the schedule for the conference has slowly started to make its way out on to the web. There are some seriously cool sounding panels this year. I would love to attend the session with the writers from The Big Bang Theory, the class on Steampunk 101 sounds awesome, and I would be in the front row for anything Simon Pegg was a part of!

Beyond what you might see in the expo hall or hear in a session or panel, there is also the fun ripple of intrigue that happens at Comic-Con. It was just last year that the world saw the Man of Steel poster for the first time and got a glimpse at the new Superman.

  • Possible Hobbit News 9 of 11

I know, I KNOW. There is really next to zero chance of there being any official news or previews from Peter Jackson about Hobbit. I mean, once a filmmaker makes a video explaining why he won't be at Comic-Con, that pretty much seals the deal. That won't stop fans from talking about the franchise and hoping, however!

Comic-Con happens at the San Diego Convention Center. The expo hall is HUGE. Every inch of the place is packed with booths and every booth has the potential to have swag.
