Adele Gets Real During Concert About the “Ridiculous” Pressures of Breastfeeding

If there’s one thing we all know to be true about Adele (besides the fact that she’s got one insane set of pipes) it’s that she keeps it real. Like, really real.

Especially when it comes to all things motherhood.

Case in point: When the Grammy-winning singer and mom of one graced the stage of London’s 02 Arena last week, she paused in between songs to sound off on the pressures put upon women to breastfeed — which, according to Adele, are “f***ing ridiculous.”

But she didn’t just end things there. As the singer told the crowd — whose ears were no doubt bent at this point — she’s got a bone to pick with everyone who perpetuates this cycle of pressure, too: “All those people who put pressure on us [to breastfeed], you can go f*** yourselves, all right? Because it’s hard. Some of us can’t do it. I managed about nine weeks with my boobs.”

Adele’s honest words weren’t exactly out of nowhere, though — they came just days after British chef Jamie Oliver swung by LBC Radio and commented that the country had a “problem” with not enough women breastfeeding. (Something that managed to leave a lot of women in Britain pretty PO’d.)

“I mean, I loved [using formula],” Adele continued. “All I wanted to do was breastfeed and then I couldn’t and then I felt like, ‘If I was in the jungle now back in the day, my kid would be dead because my milk’s gone.'”

This isn’t the only time the singer’s been brutally honest about being a mum.

Last October, in an interview with i-D magazine, the singer put it to the mag pretty bluntly: Being a mom is “f***ing hard,” she said. “I thought it would be easy. [I thought,] ‘Everyone [freaking] does it, how hard can it be?’ Ohhhhh. I had no idea.”

That said, she’s been loving every single minute of it. “It is hard but it’s phenomenal,” the singer added. “It’s the greatest thing I ever did. … It used to be that my own world revolved around me, but now it has to revolve around him.”

And just this February, Adele told Vogue, that her 3-year-old son Angelo has given her a whole new outlook on life. “When I became a parent, I felt like I was truly living,” she said. “I had a purpose, where before I didn’t … My main thing is Mum, then it’s me, then it’s work.”

Yep; according to Adele, being a mom is pretty dope. And being able to have little Angelo while simultaneously making chart-topping, Grammy-winning hits? Well, that’s pretty cool, too — so don’t expect her to slow down any time soon.

“I don’t want to wait until my kid is 16 to show him who I am.'” she told Rolling Stone last November. “Because I’m very proud of what I achieved … So I feel f***ing so fortunate that the stars just aligned for me and allowed me to have the most ridiculous ride ever.”
