Countdown to Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues

anchorman-posterIf you’re having trouble waiting for the Anchorman sequel to arrive in theaters on December 20, it might have occurred to you that ice cream, a Ron Burgundy memoir, and a museum exhibit could hold you over until that wonderful day.

Actually, that probably didn’t occur to you at all, but you’re in luck anyway, because soon you can have all of those Anchorman things and more.

It’s been nine long years since Anchorman brought Ron Burgundy, Veronica Corningstone, and the entire Channel 4 San Diego newsroom crew to the masses, so it’s no wonder that promotion for the upcoming sequel is early and amped. The usual film trailers and photographs have been released for months, but this fall, the merchandise and multimedia is popping up all over the place. Ron Burgundy, especially (as played by Will Ferrell, of course) is everywhere, from Dodge Durango commercials to his very own memoir, and even an upcoming Ben & Jerry’s special edition flavor (Ron Burgundy’s ‘Scotchy Scotch Scotch,’ anyone? Butterscotch, that is.)

The museum exhibit is also really happening, and it’s going to be big. The Newseum in Washington, D.C. will open “Anchorman: The Exhibit” in November, and it will run through August, 2014. It will feature costumes worn by the Channel 4 Evening News team and original props from the movie, including Ron’s jazz flute. The exhibit also includes a re-creation of the KVWN-TV anchor desk and news set where visitors can pose for photo ops.

I know, I know. There are so many questions. Will the sequel be as funny as the first one? How are Ron and Veronica holding up? It’s been almost ten years, so what’s up with Baxter the dog? It’s enough to send you into a glass case of emotion. But you also know this: no matter how excited you get about the sequel (and yes, there’s a countdown clock, too), stay classy, Anchorman fans. Here is a selection of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues goodies to hold you over until you can catch it in the theater.

I'm kind of a big deal, so it's no surprise that there will soon be a whole exhibit about me in our nation's capital. They literally raided my closet and the Channel 4 News set to put my stuff on display at what they call the Newseum in Washington, D.C. So stop whatever you're doing and make plans to visit my glass case of emotion, "Anchorman: The Exhibit."

Ron is all about cars right now, filming a series of spots for Dodge. Make that Will Ferrell filming a series of spots for Dodge, as Ron.

"I'm the only one with the guts to tell you about the glove box...This thing goes on for inches," Ron says, in a clip that may or may not make you want to buy a Dodge. (It's a pretty spiffy vehicle, can't lie.)

Paul Rudd has dropped by Conan's show twice to talk Anchorman 2, among other things. Last December, he was just starting to grow his hair out for the role, and said that he and the rest of the cast didn't even know the sequel was a go until they heard Will Ferrell announce the news on Conan's show. By April, Rudd was in Atlanta making the movie and dropped by to show Conan a clip that turned out not to be of the film at all — twice.
