No one is more excited for Netflix’s reboot Gilmore Girls: A Day in the Life than yours truly. To prep for the big premiere, I’ve been watching an episode a day. Of course it wouldn’t be a Gilmore binge without indulgent eats; I usually pair it with pizza and wine.
After all, the running gag with Lorelai and Rory is their diets (or rather lack there of). The mother-daughter duo eat, and eat, and then eat some more. And we’re not talking kale and cucumbers. They’re always stuffing their faces with burgers, Chinese, pancakes, donuts, and coffee. Lots of coffee.
You can soon eat like them too, thanks to fellow fan Kristi Carlson. She’s creating the unofficial cookbook called Eat Like a Gilmore. But you won’t find junk food in this book, as she notes on her blog that the best kind of junk food is takeout, from a box, or heat and serve — and a “drawer full of takeout menus, a toaster, and a 7-Eleven within walking distance” are all you need for that.
“The purpose of this cookbook is to explore and celebrate the ‘other’ foods found in Stars Hollow. Yes, this includes cheeseburgers — but cheeseburgers you can make at home with real ingredients that taste way better than anything from a drive-thru,” says Carlson. One example is the mac and cheese with jalapeño-chipotle cream sauce that Sookie mistakenly made for a Lord of the Rings-themed kids party. We’re sure glad Carlson’s using real ingredients in her recipes, since unlike the characters, we would most definitely be 400 pounds if we actually ate like a Gilmore.
The book is available for pre-orders at $24.99, and will be released this fall — just in time for a long-awaited Netflix viewing party!More On
