It was like it was yesterday … and yet it wasn’t.
While all die-hard fans were crushed when Gilmore Girls went off the air in 2007, we were ecstatic to learn that a reboot/continuation was in the works for this year. The show, which will return as four 90-minute episodes to air on Netflix, will be a format audiences are unfamiliar with and details have been scarce — until now.
Lauren Graham, who played lead character Lorelei Gilmore for all seven seasons, took a break from filming to pop over to The Ellen Degeneres Show with all sorts of juicy details. And when we say “pop over” we mean literally — the sets are right next door to one another!
Running in, shoes in-hand and a bit out of breath, Graham revealed the title of the reboot: Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.
Not only that, Graham told Ellen that the four episodes will take place in each season — winter, spring, summer, and fall (a nice nod to the iconic Carole King song featured in the show’s opening credits).
While it felt natural to reprise the role that made her famous, Graham explained that the whole experience of filming has been both emotional and surreal.
“It’s been the most incredible experience, I cry trying to talk about it,” Graham told Ellen. “I just feel so lucky to get to do it. But it’s also been so bizarre because I open the door and we’re across the street from [the set of The Ellen Degeneres Show], which wasn’t the case before but the set is the same but we’re in a different place. It’s like it was yesterday, but it was not yesterday.”
She continued to explain how much the character and the material means to her, and how lucky she feels to be able to return to it.
“I love this character so much and I had the same feeling I had when I first opened the script which was, just such a deep connection. And to get to do it again, who would have imagined?”
Well, we don’t know about you, but we cannot wait to see Lorelei and all our favorite Stars Hollow characters back on screen! But for now we’ll just have to wait patiently … and play “Where You Lead” on repeat.More On
