The Sanderson sisters may have had to wait 300 years for a virgin to light a candle, but we had to wait 24 years for a Hocus Pocus remake — and you know what? That was quite long enough.
Yes, a new iteration of the beloved Halloween classic Hocus Pocus is in the works to become a Disney Channel Original Movie, and we may need to form a calming circle because we are all kinds of not chill right now. News broke today that the writer is Scarlett Lacey (The Royals) and the executive producer is David Kirschner, producer of the original Hocus Pocus, who has also worked on a number of popular films and television series.
No word yet on whether or not any of the original cast — Bette Midler (Winifred Sanderson), Sarah Jessica Parker (Sarah Sanderson), Kathy Najimy (Mary Sanderson), Omri Katz (Max), Thora Birch (Dani), and Vinessa Shaw (Allison) — will be returning or making cameos. Though how major would that be if the Sanderson sisters came back to sing “I Put a Spell on You”? Or Ice (played by Larry Bagby) had a mini-Ice running around with an ill-advised haircut, snatching the shoes off of unsuspecting new kids?
This year has been a big one as far as Hocus Pocus news goes, as Vinessa Shaw revealed in August that she is expecting a baby with a very on-brand baby announcement and Spirit Halloween released a new line of ah-mazing Hocus Pocus-inspired products that we’ve been drooling over.
For those of you who just can’t wait for the remake, Freeform will be playing the movie in heavy rotation as part of their 13 Nights of Halloween lineup, including an all-day marathon on October 31. Because nothing says Halloween to a millennial quite like a big bowl of chocolate and Hocus Pocus on repeat, amiright?More On
