Is There Anything Jesse Eisenberg Can’t Do?

Jesse Eisenberg Soon To Be Published AuthorWe can all quit walking around in wonder over the casting of Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor in the Untitled Superman-Batman Project. Now it’s time to be in awe of the next amazing thing Jesse Eisenberg has achieved: the actor has landed a publishing deal. Grove Atlantic will be publishing the actor’s collection of short stories (Deadline is reporting it is tentatively titled, Bream Gives Me Hiccups: And Other Stories) in the spring of 2015.

In a press release from Grove Atlantic we learn the title is connected to one of Jesse Eisenberg’s short stories:

“[The Title] comes from a series of stories Eisenberg wrote from the point of view of a nine-year-old boy whose mother brings him to expensive Los Angeles restaurants so she can bill her ex-husband for the meals. Other stories imagine discussions in ancient Pompeii just before the volcanic eruption, explore the vagaries of post-gender-normative dating in New York City, and chart a marriage counselor’s heckling at a Knicks game. In different ways, the stories explore what it means to be navigating the modern world, and are all illuminated by Eisenberg’s ironic wit and gift for writing.”

Only 30 years old and Jesse Eisenberg is making us wonder if there is anything he can’t do.

• Nominated for an Oscar®?

CHECK. Jesse was nominated for best actor in 2011 for his performance in The Social Network. For a complete understanding of how clever Jesse is, you must read this interview panel from Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me a few weeks before the 2011 ceremony. He discusses how he opened up fake Facebook pages to prepare for his role and spills on his silly plans to bring his mom (who was his date!) to the ceremony on a bike.

• Published Playwright?

CHECK. CHECK. Jesse has published TWO plays. The first play he published, Asuncion, earned him a Drama League Award nomination. His second play, The Revisionist, enjoyed an incredibly successful off-Broadway run and there are plans for a Broadway run this year.

• Wants You to Get Creative?

CHECK. Jesse is the reason for the incredibly addictive website OneUpMe. The site was created because he, “had an idea for a simple wordplay game where people could respond to a daily prompt in an attempt to ‘one-up’ each other in the cleverness of their response.” It is now owned and managed by his cousin, Eric Fisher (who has put time in at Facebook, Google, and Apple).

• Loves Animals?

CHECK. Jesse plays the voice of Blu in Rio and Rio 2. Inspired by research he did for the film, he got involved in animal activism. In a PSA he shared: “If an animal’s natural home is in the wild, then chances are, that’s where it belongs. Unfortunately, the demand for these intelligent, complex creatures whether captive-bred or wild caught is decimating the wild parrot species.”

I think Jesse Eisenberg has surpassed Michael Cera in quirky adorableness and I am inspired by all that he does offscreen. I can’t wait to read his collection when it is released.
