After a reportedly “stress-free” delivery, singer Janet Jackson officially welcomed her first child Tuesday, January 3 — and it’s a boy!
According to the official announcement, obtained exclusively by PEOPLE, Mom and baby are healthy, happy, and resting comfortably.
“Janet Jackson and husband Wissam Al Mana are thrilled to welcome their new son Eissa Al Mana into the world,” the statement read.
As for the name? Eissa Al Mana. Though there are no details yet on where the inspiration came from, the name “Eissa” is most likely derived from the Egyptian boy name “Issa,” which means “God saves.”
Rumors of the 50-year-old singer’s pregnancy first swirled early last year after she postponed her Unbreakable World Tour in April, saying she’d decided to focus on family. Jackson broke the news in a video message to fans shared on Twitter:
“We’re in the second leg of the tour and there actually has been a sudden change,” Jackson shared. “I thought it was important that you be the first to know. My husband and I are planning our family, so I’m going to have to delay the tour.”
But it wasn’t until October that Jackson officially confirmed her pregnancy to PEOPLE: she and Al Mana, a Qatari businessman to whom she’s been married since 2012, were expecting a baby in early 2017.
Along with the announcement, the singer shared a photo of herself sporting a visible baby bump.
“We thank God for our blessing,” she said at the time.
Jackson managed to maintain a low profile throughout the rest of her pregnancy, — even going quiet on social media — though, in a November 2016 tweet, she thanked her fans for their continued support.
Congrats to the healthy mom and baby!
