When Jimmy Fallon moves The Tonight Show to LA for a week, he really steps it up a notch (or ten). We thought the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air opening was brilliant, but last night? LAST NIGHT, PEOPLE?! Television history was made when Fallon reunited the cast of Saved by the Bell in a way only he could: he inserted himself into the plot-line.
Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Mario Lopez, Tiffani Thiessen, Elizabeth Berkley, and even Dennis Haskins all walked the halls of Bayside to say “goodbye” to their friend Jimmy before he heads off to New York to be a professional comedian. In typical ’90s fashion, the cast looked pretty much the same as they did way back in ’93, complete with Keds, high-waisted mom jeans, and even Slater’s iconic black ballet unitard. (Yes, he busted out some pirouettes and yes, they were amazing.)
Touching on some of the most iconic episodes (“I’m So Excited!”), the kids pick up pretty much right where they left off — with a few surprises thrown in for good measure. It’s hard to pick a favorite moment, but Zack’s not-so-subtle nod to Jimmy’s real-life “date” with Nicole Kidman is a historic revision we were totally on-board with.
So call your friends on your Zack Morris phone, get out your pom-poms, and watch the hysterical video above for all the nostalgic goodness. But be prepared: for the next eight minutes of your life, you may just believe it’s a Saturday morning in 1991.
