Kristen Bell’s Trick for Keeping Her Kids Close Is One We’ll Be Stealing ASAP

Looks like everyone’s favorite Hollywood mom, Kristen Bell, has gone viral yet again this week for sharing another one of her tried-and-true parenting tricks. This time, she’s dishing her personal method of keeping her kids safe while they’re out running errands. She calls it “Hands on the circle!” and I’m not even exaggerating here, it’s pretty genius.

After sharing the tip on Instagram yesterday, “Hands on the circle!” has already been liked nearly 145,000 times — and with good reason. The idea itself is pretty simple (as all the best parenting hacks are) and likely something other parents have used, in different ways.

Here’s how it works: When hopping out of the car, Bell tells her kids to immediately put their hands on what she calls the “circle” — AKA the gas cap. This way, Mom knows exactly where they are while she unloads the car. Especially in busy cities or highly-trafficked parking lots, this simple mom hack is a smart way to keep kids safe.

Kristen actually credits her “brilliant sister-in-law” for “Hands on the circle!” and says, “It has thus far kept all kiddos safe from any oncoming traffic while I unload the trunk.” She might be driving a fancier car than the rest of us, and living in the Hollywood Hills, but the Bad Moms star (or as my kids know her, the voice of Anna from Frozen) is still just a mom to a 4- and 2-year-old — who are both likely full of energy and sometimes hard to control while tagging along on trips to the grocery store.

Bell is perhaps known best for her honesty above all else, as she often talks candidly about parenting her young daughters Delta and Lincoln and her marriage to Dax Shepard. Last year, her fans applauded when she said moms should breastfeed their babies in public “with pride,” and that “if someone is uncomfortable, that’s their problem.”

But she’s also sounded off on other parenting hot topics — like the fact that she never lets her kids’ public tantrums get her down, as it’s their embarrassment, not hers. “Once the negative feeling starts to own you, it’s on you to put it in the trash and let it go,” she shared with Babble earlier this year. “You are the only person that has the power to change your feelings.”

The actress has also opened up about how hard marriage truly is (especially with kids). Bell and her husband (actor Dax Shepard) have shared that they’ve made it work by attending couples therapy together, and often “hit pause” when they feel disconnected from one another. At the end of the day, they say they “earn each other” through a lot of hard work.

So it’s no surprise that our favorite “bad mom” (who actually seems like a pretty awesome mom) is willing to share all the handy tricks she’s found to be successful.

I mean, who can forget that time she shared her clever parenting hack for fixing a busted diaper mid-flight, with a hair tie?

Bell has even admitted that she welcomes parenting advice from others, saying, “I want to hear it because it may be valuable to me.”

But as for the rest of us, it’s safe to say that we’re all pretty grateful she also shares wisdom of her own. After all, we’re all in this motherhood thing together, and every little bit of support helps.
