La La Land received countless award show nominations this past season — winning over the critics with its catchy tunes, impressive dance numbers and, of course, the beautiful Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling.
The opening number “Another Day of Sun” was a fan favorite — so much so that it inspiring Arizona high schooler Jacob Staudenmaier to recreate the scene in hopes of snagging Stone as his junior prom date.
Babble caught up with the high school junior, who reveals, “This kid from my high school had promposed to Miley Cyrus about three years ago. That was the initial inspiration.” While Cyrus couldn’t make it, she inviting the boy to a concert and to hang out with her, so Staudenmaier’s hopes are pretty high.
“I also loved La La Land and Emma Stone’s performance in the movie, and knowing she was from Arizona it seemed like the perfect idea. I also knew if I was going to prompose to her I had to make it a big, ambitious production.”
Staudenmaier, who is an aspiring filmmaker, had the pleasure of seeing this La La Land promposal go viral since he shared it on April 4th — garnering over 18K retweets and 41K likes. Pretty impressive for someone trying to score a date to the prom, right?
In the video, the 17-year-old, who admittedly does look a little like Gosling, gathers some of his friends (and their cars), dresses up in a fancy tuxedo, and belts his heart out to Emma Stone. “Planning took about two weeks, but filming only took about 2 hours,” Staudenmaier says. Pretty impressive!
With lyrics like “I know my voice ain’t great, but please be my prom date,” how could Stone turn him down?
And if she says “yes”?! “I would be completely mind blown,” Staudenmaier says, “And even if she were to say no, I’d be perfectly ok with that too. Just a response would be amazing.”
Since this video is EVERYWHERE right now, it’s only a matter of time until Emma gives her response. Even if she doesn’t, we’re sure Staudenmaier’s new Internet fame will land him a date in no time.
