To say The Magic School Bus reboot has been a long time coming would be a bit of an understatement. Rumors that the 90’s classic would be returning had been swirling for years before Netflix announced plans to finally make it happen back in 2014. But due to unspecified delays, production never really got underway.
Then last month, fans rejoiced when series producer (and former cast member) Stu Stone told TMZ that the reboot was really happening this time, and that production had already begun. Still, Stone didn’t have too many details to give up at the time — particularly the one thing that was on everyone’s mind: Who’s going to play Ms. Frizzle?
For a while, some wondered whether Lily Tomlin would reprise her role as the wacky, yet beloved character. (She is, after all, a Netflix darling right now thanks to her hit, Grace & Frankie.)
But it looks like Netflix is going with a new leading lady, after all: Variety reports that Kate McKinnon will star as Ms. Frizzle in the reboot — which is probably music to the ears of … well, pretty much everyone.
I know, I know — this is kind of amazing news, considering McKinnon is basically THE BEST. She’s already beloved for her spot-on impressions on SNL and hilarious role in 2016’s Ghostbusters reboot. But this? Honestly, we’ve already got our binge-watching pants on.
