Michael Douglas Gets Choked Up As He Picks Up GQ AwardSuzanne Jannese
Last night, Hollywood star Michael Douglas appeared rather choked as he gave a touching acceptance speech at the GQ Men Of The Year Awards in London. The actor, who is currently separated from wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, spoke at the star studded event.
In his speech, he said: “More recently life imitates art … you get a little cancer scare, you open your mouth … I shouldn’t say that, I’ll get in trouble again!” (Met with much laughter from the audience.) However, when he continued, “The legend part … it’s a polite way of saying this is my third act. I’m looking forward to it relishing especially with this year… It’s a lot…” he trailed off.
Previously in the week, at the Berlin Film Festival on Monday, Douglas had said, “I have a crisis at home? No, I think the press has a crisis.” He continued, “We, we are fine. My wife and I are, are fine. We take a temporary separation, but the press, it gives you stuff to write about.”
The two time Oscar winner has not been seen together in public with Zeta-Jones since April. Her publicist, Cece Yorke, said last week that they were “taking some time apart to evaluate and work on their marriage.” While Douglas has been in Europe, his wife has remained in New York with their two children, Dylan, 13, and 10-year-old Carys.
Douglas accepted the award from his friend Samuel L. Jackson, who paid tribute to his friend’s inspirational career as he received GQ’s Legend award. The Royal Opera House in London’s Covent Garden was filled with A-list stars who turned out for the annual awards. The men’s magazine gave out awards for ‘Lifetime Achievement,’ ‘Icon,’ and ‘Most Stylish Man.’
