Mork and Mindy will soon be together again, although not as Mork and Mindy.
Robin Williams announced via Instagram, which is fast becoming the new visual press release, that Pam Dawber would make a guest appearance on his show, The Crazy Ones.
@therobinwilliams: She’s baaaaack! Coming soon to @thecrazyonescbs #pamdawber #tbt
Williams’ co-star Sarah Michelle Gellar tweeted a photo of Dawber and Williams together, with the message:
.@robinwilliams thank you for letting me be a part of this today #PamDawber #32yearsinthemaking
Williams and Dawber played the title characters — an alien and his Earth-person roommate in Boulder, Colorado, who eventually fell in love and got married — in Mork and Mindy‘s 1978-1982 run. I was a couch potato kid, and this show was one of my very favorites. Let’s face it, if you were a kid who watched TV much during those years, “Na nu, na nu,” Mork’s signature Orkan greeting, was probably in your playground vocabulary. The show was on the one hand total escapism, but it also had heart and sweetness, and that was mostly because of the relationship between Williams’ and Dawber’s characters. It makes sense that they’d be pals after this many years because they always had an easy chemistry on-screen.
It feels to me like Mork & Mindy ran longer than four years, but that’s probably because I was devoted to reruns when the originals were over. Williams has continued to act prolifically since then in films like Ho0k, Mrs. Doubtfire, and The Dead Poets Society, but Dawber has been relatively quiet on the acting front, with no credited roles since 2000, per IMDB. Dawber’s character in The Crazy Ones will once again play a love interest for Williams, but chances are that their relationship will not result in anything like Jonathan Winters playing their full-grown baby, as it did when things got a little weirder than usual on Mork & Mindy towards the end.
One person is excited about this TV reunion besides me, and that is Robin Williams.
“It will be a joy to work with her again,” he told CBS about Dawber. “It’s a dream come true.”
Dawber said that she’s “so excited to be able to see and work with Robin again…I know it’ll be a great week!”
