These days, weddings are becoming so creative, it can be hard to keep up — especially with the recent trend that’s catching on, of couples literally getting hitched inside their favorite stores. There was the Miami couple who tied the knot at Target earlier this year, and the Australian newlyweds who got married at Costco last September; and now, we’ve got another creative bride and groom to add to the list: Justin and Heather Sietman, who recently held their wedding ceremony at none other than Party City!
After meeting in 2014 while working together at McDonald’s, Justin says the two actually lost touch until a mutual friend reunited them in 2016. Things progressed pretty quickly after that, and at Heather’s 27th birthday party, Justin got down on one knee and proposed.
“It was an impromptu thing that I decided needed to involve the family,” Justin tells Babble. “I didn’t even have the ring yet! But she said yes!”
When it came to planning the ceremony, the couple chose a venue close to their hearts — their local Party City store. The reason? Well, for one thing, they wanted it to be as non-traditional as possible, Justin says, though that came as a surprise to friends and family.
“Everyone is used to big halls and fancy places,” says Justin. “But that’s not what Heather and I are. We are goofs and oddballs … We almost wore pants and a T-shirt to the wedding!”
Justin says having the wedding at Party City was also an emotional decision. As an employee of Party City for a few years now, he says the store means a lot to him because of the people he works with every day.
“It just felt right,” Justin shares. “Party City is like a home away from home for me. Everyone I work with, I’ve developed some kind of familial bond with.”
One of those special people is his boss, Ben Shuh, who Justin says has become like a second father to him, as well as a mentor who’s helped mold him into “a better man and manager.” So it made perfect sense for Shuh to officiate the ceremony — an honor he was more than happy to get ordained for.
Needless to say, when it came to the ceremony itself, the decor was on point — thanks to the venue being Party City, and all. A huge blue and silver “Mr. & Mrs.” mylar balloon hung over the wedding arch, and surrounding store merchandise was covered with blue and silver tablecloths to create a beautiful aisle to walk down.
But one of the most touching moments came after the ceremony, when Justin and Heather were surprised with a $1,000 nest egg from Party City! Justin tells Babble that instead of spending it on their honeymoon, the couple is saving the money to get a place of their own, so they can “start a life together anew.”
How cute is that? Congrats to the adorable newlyweds, and kudos for creating a day your guests will probably never forget!
