Peter Capaldi Reassures a Little Doctor Who FanKacy Faulconer
Face it, Whovians: we have a hard time moving on. From one regeneration to the next we all mourn the loss of the old doctor and have to personally come to terms with the new. I’m not exaggerating. It’s hard. Sometimes it takes a while for the new guy to win us over.
Well, the new guy has just won me over (and most of the Doctor Who universe—which is super vast you guys). Peter Capaldi, the 13th Doctor, has barely shown his face in an episode, but his interaction in the video below with a young Doctor Who fan is melting our hearts in a big way. He meets a little girl, dressed adorably as a dalek, who is autistic and felt nervous about having a new Doctor. Her aunt explained the situation on Tumblr:
“The little girl in the dalek outfit is my niece, she’s autistic and was finding it difficult coming to terms with the regeneration as Matt [Smith’s] doctor is her imaginary friend, she was worried PCap wouldn’t want to play with her. We are very ecstatic that he took time to reassure her. He’s brilliant!”
When he met the little girl Peter Capaldi took the time to get down on her level, scroll through his phone, and find a picture of himself with the old doctor, Matt Smith.
“Look, see who’s there?” he says as he shows the little girl a picture of himself with Matt Smith and Jenna Coleman, the Doctor’s companion. “They say it’s OK for me to be the Doctor so I hope you think it would be OK for me to be the Doctor too.” Her mom explains how her family happened to meet the Doctor on her blog and you can watch the video right here.
