Being a kid in the ’90s was pretty simple — we sipped on Capri Suns, snacked on Gushers, and played with our Polly Pockets. What more could a girl have wanted? I remember being entertained for hours by my teeny, tiny compact dolls. They were my favorite because I could take them on-the-go without any complaints from my mom — and now they’re making their return!
According to BuzzFeed, the original Polly Pocket compact toys are officially coming back this June! The adorable mini dolls had first been released in 1989, only to be discontinued in 1998. Mattel then gave the collection a makeover, making the dolls and their homes a little bigger. I can still recall the smell of rubber the new dolls’ stretchy clothing gave off. But as a 6-year-old being given a new set of dolls to play with, I’m sure I didn’t complain.
Nonetheless, the Polly Pockets I remember the most are the miniature ones with limited movements and painted-on outfits. And I’m so excited to see they are being brought back for the kids of today.
While Polly and her friends may have received an update, the original aesthetic of the toy is certainly intact.
Look at how cute this tropical pool party set is!
And this tiny apartment will prepare kiddos for the real size of a New York City apartment someday! Win-win?
I mean, Polly even has a limo now! She truly is back in style — in a big way.
I’m definitely picking up one of these Polly Pocket sets to continue living out my ’90s dreams.
