Ryan Reynolds Told His Daughter a Little White Lie About Santa and It Didn’t End Well

By now, we’re all well aware that Ryan Reynolds is pretty much the most hilarious human ever. Need I remind you of the time he pissed Blake Lively off by playing “Let’s Get it On” while she was in labor? Or the time trolled her hardcore on IG by sharing a particularly haggard photo of her on set? Or that other time he trolled her hardcore by wishing her a Happy Birthday and cropping her out of his photo?

Yeah, I didn’t think so.

He’s also always been super honest about this parenting thing in a way that kinda sorta makes you think he’s one of us, and totally forget (if only for a second) that he’s an A-List actor/Sexiest Man Alive Times Infinity/perfect human. And yesterday was no exception.

On December 26, Reynolds took to Instagram to remind us all that he, too, lies to his children about Santa at Christmastime. And sometimes, he doesn’t fully think those lies through. And, on occasion, he even gets called out by his kids, who are apparently getting too smart for their own good.

Me: Yup.
Daughter: You left the fire burning all night.

Me: Yup. (Silence. Slight breeze. A crow circles in the distance.)

In his caption, which accompanies a photo of a warm, cozy fire, Reynolds sets the scene:

Daughter: Santa comes down the chimney?
Me: Yup.
Daughter: You left the fire burning all night.
Me: Yup. (Silence. Slight breeze. A crow circles in the distance.)

Aaaaaaand I DIE.

It seems while in this midst of his Christmas morning stupor, Reynolds got a little loose with his Santa fibs and underestimated how sharp his daughter would be. Happens to the best of us. But as many (many) Instagram users were quick to point out, the reality of his fib — if his daughter were to take things literally — is actually pretty damn morbid.

“Mr. Reynolds this is a nightmare for her, why did you say that,” wrote one rather deadpan Instagram user.

Others, who have clearly been around the block a few times when it comes to Santa-related white lies, jumped in with some belated advice, such as, “You could of said he done it with Christmas magic.”

Oh well … maybe he’ll be a little more quick on his feet next year?
