If there are two things in my life that have never let me down, it’s coffee and Gilmore Girls. Sure, I love my family and friends and blah, blah, blah … but mostly the coffee and Gilmore Girls.
In fact, I am literally drinking a cup of coffee as I write (and will probably knock a few more back later on today). And when it comes to Gilmore Girls? I’ve seen all of the episodes more times than I can even count, and last year, I went to the Gilmore Girls Fan Fest and visited Luke’s Diner pop-up coffee shop in NYC. (For the record, both were awesome.)
I guess you could say I’m kind of obsessed with all things java and GG-related … which is why I could not be more excited to learn that Scott Patterson (AKA Gilmore Girls’ Luke Danes) is launching his very own coffee brand!
Yes folks, the fictional world of Stars Hollow is finally becoming a reality — and I for one can hardly contain myself.
According to an interview with WealthManagement.com, Patterson revealed that in his off time from acting, he’s been developing his own coffee brand called Scotty P’s Big Mug Coffee.
A launch date is still TBD, but Patterson assures that it’s coming soon.
“We’re almost ready to launch,” he shared, “but we want to have our ducks in a row before we come out with it.”
One of the staples of the Gilmore Girls series is Luke’s Diner, the setting for most of the show’s key events. It’s where Lorelai and Luke met for the first time; it’s where Jess Mariano (#TeamJessForever), played by Milo Ventimiglia, came into our lives; it’s where Lorelai proposed to Luke; and it’s where the original series ends, with a shot of Lorelai and Rory doing what they love: drinking coffee.
If you’re a hardcore Gilmore Girls fan like me, then you probably wanted nothing more than to have a cup of coffee at Luke’s Diner, too (while engaging in witty banter with Lorelai). The closest I ever got was sipping a cup in front of a cardboard cutout of Luke at the pop-up coffee shop. While it wasn’t exactly the same thing, it was fun all the same.
In case you missed it, 200 mini-“Luke’s Diners” opened up nationwide on October 5, 2016, offering free cups of coffee with a “Luke’s” logo on them to hundreds of dedicated fans in promotion of the upcoming series, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.
The association between Patterson the actor and the fictional Luke’s coffee is pretty strong, which is why I have no doubt the real-life brew will catch on, too. But in addition to nailing the laid-back coffee guy vibe on-screen, Patterson is also clearly passionate about a good cup of Joe — and his new project — IRL, too. As he told WealthManagement.com:
“Quality coffee is something that I am obsessed with. It’s the thing I look forward to every morning and throughout the day and throughout the evening and now throughout the middle of the night.”
I totally feel you, Patterson. And I will definitely be pouring myself a big mug of Scotty P’s soon.
