Every couple fantasizes about putting together the wedding of their dreams. For Star Wars fanatics Krystel and Earle Doudera, their special day was literally out of this world.
The couple, who fell for each other while passing notes in the halls of their high school, hoped to pull off an awesome Star Wars-themed wedding. They figured it was impossible on their $5,000 budget, but they proved that with a little creativity you can truly make “the happiest day of your lives” exactly as you always hoped it would be. For the Doudera’s, this meant all-Star-Wars-everything.
The bride told The Huffington Post:
“We spent a lot of time researching all the deals, cut out as much ‘wedding schtuff’ as possible, like save the dates and wedding programs and made sacrifices. I did a lot of overtime to save more. We were starting our lives together and we not only wanted to start it off with a bang, but also wanted to start it off right.”
Not only do we respect the newlyweds’ love for Star Wars, but we truly appreciate their dedication to putting together a beautiful event without breaking the bank. In addition to cutting back on traditional wedding extravagances, the couple put their savings into a house in Southern California, where they would also host their special day.
Other than their incredible Star Wars-themed photoshoot, the couple brought their favorite film into their wedding day by naming the tables after planets, cutting into a Death Star-shaped cake, and of course turning their first dance into an epic lightsaber battle.
Krystel explained, “The first dance started out as any normal first dance. We swayed to Josh Groban’s ‘When You Say You Love Me’ for a few seconds until the music suddenly cut to ‘Duel of the Fates.’”
Um, where was OUR invitation to this awesome party?!
Even the bridal party was in on the theme with matching black robes and a choreographed lightsaber battle. Talk about a dedicated group of friends!
As you can imagine, some of the older family members of the couple were a bit skeptical of their wedding theme. But they eventually came around to the idea because who would want to deny true Star Wars love? Only someone in alliance with the Dark Side, obviously.
Congratulations to the happy couple — and may the force be with you.
