My caffeine addiction is strong and I’m not afraid to admit it. Before I can face each day, I must have my fill of the one thing that makes me believe I have special abilities. Some days, that means I chug a Diet Coke with breakfast. But other days, when I’m feeling a bit more dignified, I love going to our local Starbucks and getting a Chai tea, a flavored coffee, or a big ‘ole fancy latte. And now, thanks to the release of Starbucks’ brand-new holiday cups, it appears that day is today.
Starbucks holiday cups seem to make headlines every year, as coffee fiends and holiday-lovers everywhere wait with bated breath to see what new design they’ll be sipping out of all season long. And this year, the coffee giant did not disappoint: Starting November 1, Starbucks will be handing out warm beverages in their first-ever color-in holiday cup. (How fun is that?)
According to Starbucks, the design is actually “an ode to cups of years past,” as it features a pair of hands holding red cups of coffee at its center, and is “connected with swirling ribbons with lively holiday scenes and splashes of red and green.”
While I’ve loved every holiday cup Starbucks has come up with over the years (even the plain ones that were hit with criticism), this new design might be my favorite one yet. Not just because it sports a whimsical new look, but also because it invites customers to embrace their inner artiste and add personality to their happy-drink containers at the same time. Surely, coloring in your triple venti soy no-foam latte will keep you even more Zen-like, right? You know, since adult coloring has been proven to relieve stress, help you relax, and boost mental clarity … ? (Whatever, can’t hurt.)
A statement released Wednesday by Starbucks’ executive creative director Leanne Fremar added that, “This year’s cup is intentionally designed to encourage our customers to add their own color and illustrations. We love the idea of everyone making this year’s cup their own.”
And how about this bonus: Most Starbucks locations will have colored pencils on hand for their customers to create while they sip. So whether you’re in the midst of some holiday shopping, or just need to clear your head, you can take a few moments to sit down and color to your heart’s content. It’s bound to leave you feeling a bit lighter — and at the very least, you’ll have a cup for your kids to color in at home later. I’d say that’s win-win.
It’s no secret the holidays are hectic, and we need all the help we can get to stay centered. But even if you don’t have time to sit and color in a cup (or two), you gotta admit the sentiment is sweet. (Almost as sweet as that latte.)
