Like, oh my god, like doesn’t Taylor Swift totally look like she’s channeling Debbie Gibson circa 1988? Like totally! Okay, I’ll drop the Valley Girl speak, but that’s just what came to mind when we saw Taylor Swift walking down the streets of New York City wearing a black hat that looked JUST like the one Debbie Gibson sported back in the day. And that’s not where the comparisons end.
They are both — in their heydays — known for being America’s sweetheart and having HUGE hits at a very young age. In the late 1980s, Debbie Gibson was the youngest artist ever to write, produce, and also perform a Billboard No. 1 single. Fast-forward 20 years or so when Taylor Swift earned the title of being the youngest person to write and perform a number one song on the Hot Country Songs chart.
And get this, Debbie Gibson recently had some motherly advice for Taylor Swift saying in an interview: “Taylor reminds me a bit of me in that I was always worried about what other people thought. Years of therapy later, I’m here to tell Taylor to break it down, be a bit more raw, and don’t worry so much about what other people think.”
What do you think or Taylor Swift’s Debbie Gibson-era style?
