Well they asked us what we want, what we really really want and now it seems they’re giving it to us!
Yes, the Spice Girls are not only back but they’re planning an epic reunion tour. There are just two catches: First, they’ve lost two original members, Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice) and Mel C (Sporty Spice) will not be returning this time around. Second, they’ve rebranded themselves on account of, you know, not actually being all five Spice Girls.
In a video uploaded to YouTube yesterday, Mel Brown (Scary Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), and Geri Horner (Ginger Spice) announced that they will now be known as GEM (for Geri, Emma, and Mel, naturally).
They also took the time to send a special thank you to their loyal fans:
“You’ve stood by us for 20 years, and we wanna say a big thank you. We’ve had our ups and downs, but you’ve always been there. And we wanna celebrate and have a party. And when we do… You’re all invited!”
More news (like tour dates and ticket information) is apparently “coming soon.” So we’ll all just have to wait patiently (or impatiently depending on your level of fandom) until it does. We can only hope that Posh and Sporty might decide to surprise fans with an appearance or two on tour, after all they’ve said time and again that there’s no hard feelings amongst these long-time friends.
Man. It’s hard to believe that it was 20 years ago that we were jumping on our beds singing “Wannabe” at the top of our lungs, screaming “GIRL POWER!” at every opportunity, and fighting with our friends over who got to be Ginger Spice. But I guess it’s time to dust off those CDs, squeeze into our cheetah pants, and prepare to let these ladies spice up our lives once again.
Can. Not. Wait.
