ikea-hacks-624x6621If you have a kid heading out to college for the first time this fall, then this is the post for you. Dorm rooms are generally super small and pretty boring as far as decorations and furniture go. Let’s do something about that, shall we?

There are some pretty genius IKEA hacks that are perfect for sprucing up and making the best of a dorm room. When I went to college, I had no idea just how small the room would be, so my biggest issue was storage. And I’m sure I’m not alone! We came up with whatever methods we could to create more storage space without making the room look like a giant closet.

This list has some great ideas that I wish I’d had back in the day! We also found some ways to spruce up the dorm and make it your own, something college kids will absolutely love. And of course, IKEA. Isn’t it the greatest? Sure we don’t always love all the designs, but with a few hacks here and there you can turn some cheap items from IKEA into something amazing.

Here are seven fantastic IKEA hacks that are perfect for your kid’s dorm room:

Everyone needs a great cork board — even college kids! This cork board (made with a modified UNG DRILL) is easy to make and is great for using up any corks you might have lying around. Don’t have corks? You could easily replace them with cork mat, which is even easier!

When I was in college, the thing to do for storage under your bed was to put the bed on cinder blocks. This is so much prettier! Add some kitchen cabinets under your bed and you have instant storage! So clever.
