It’s been awhile since I had a baby in the house but my friends are having babies, left and right. They’ve been seeking my advice on the ins and outs of designing a nursery. I always had such a good time pulling together a sweet space for my little ones and I really do enjoy seeing how trends evolve over the years. Tastes are always changing and I love it when I come across creative ways that people interpret the latest nursery trends. There’s something a little exciting in the unexpected don’t you think?
For instance, would you ever dare to paint your entire nursery a dramatic black or navy? I can’t quite put my finger on why I like it so much, but dark, moody walls feel so cave-like and cozy. Going with a strong paint color is always a gutsy move, but I think it can really pay off.
I’ve included a few other examples in the gallery below so click on through. You are sure to find some good inspiration and hey, who said you had to limit these trends to just the nursery anyway? Long live good design!
1. Dark and Gold
The dark walls in contrast with the gold crib give this nursery a touch of luxury and whimsy in equal measure. (via LeSueur Interiors)
2. Bold Graphic Linens
I think any tiny tot would be lucky to have a fawn printed on his or her bed linens. With threads like this, their room will be the envy of every baby on the block. I’ve seen tons of graphic images like this on linens, pillows, and wall art. Statement-making for sure! (via Penelope Home)
3. Striped Ceiling
I love the juxtaposition of the soft, plush carpet and the hard lines of the striped orange ceiling. This pop of color gives just enough oomph to the nursery without being overpowering. (via The Glow)
4. Nature Indoors
This rustic accessory instantly updates the space from simple to stunning. Parents hoping to achieve a similar look don’t have to travel too far, just pop into your backyard and find a beautiful branch to make into a mobile. (via Grey Likes Baby)
5. Patterns on Patterns
This room is a great example of how patterns can complement instead of compete with one another. (via Green Wedding Shoes)
6. Alphabet Wall
I’m really loving the colorful and graphic take on the alphabet as an alternative to more traditional displays. It adds a mature element to the room, but still remains youthful with soft pastels. (via The Handmade Home)
