Dad Makes Real Life Dollhouse for His Family in an Airplane Hangar

Ever wanted to live in a Barbie Dream House? Sure, we all have. Well, this New Jersey family is doing the next best thing! Architect Adam Kalkin created a unique home experience for his family, and it’s all inside an airplane hangar. There’s an old farmhouse to one side and a cross section of rooms to the other. You’re able to view these rooms from the mail living area, proving a dollhouse-like feel.

Kalkin explains, “It’s kind of a ship in a bottle type of thing,” which you can clearly see when watching the video. He purchased the 1880’s farmhouse, removed the chimney (and placed it on the outside), then built the airplane hangar around it to give the family all the living space they could possibly need. He wanted to marriage old and new architecture to create something completely different and perfect for his family.

Our favorite part about the epic house tour? That rooms were filled with his kids’ toys. Proving that even the coolest, most intricately designed house is still littered with stuffed animals, toy trucks, and bikes. OK, and there’s a climbing rope. That’s pretty awesome.
