Amanda Destro Pierson made her Parma, Ohio, home the scariest one on the block with her monster garage. The best part is when the garage door goes up and down, the monster opens its mouth with a menacing glare.
Pierson posted a video of the terrifying monster garage on Facebook, and has been amazed by the attention it’s getting. “I can’t believe MILLIONS OF PEOPLE have watched my garage door go up and down!” she wrote. Since it was posted on October 11, the video has been viewed over 24 million times.
And where did she get the inspiration to make the monster garage? Pinterest of course!
She told TODAY that it took her 10 hours in one weekend to transform her home into a monster. She hand-painted everything on craft foam and used duct tape to put the teeth up. The eyes are hung up with siding hooks and fishing line. Overall it took five hours to paint it, another couple to cut out the design, and “about five trips to the craft store.”
“I had a weekend off and just thought, ‘I want to have a monster house,’” she said.
While I could never pull off such an elaborate Pinterest project, Pierson is a professional face painter and graphic designer, and it seems like she knows what she’s doing. Her whole family takes Halloween very seriously, too. She and her husband, Andrew, and 13-year-old stepdaughter Kylee all dress up in elaborate Halloween costumes.
She’s gotten so much great feedback about the design that she’s making a kit to sell for next Halloween. You can even sign up for the mailing list for more info on the kits here. Maybe then the less-than-artistically-gifted people like me could have an awesome monster house, too!
