12 Gifts Your Kids Will Freak Out Over

babble_giftguide_kids 2

There’s just something about the holidays that feels truly magical when you’re a kid. Baked goods and parties and twinkle lights … what’s not to love? And the best part? The thrill of receiving that perfect gift … the one you will remember with fond memories well into your adult years. For me that perfect gift was a tetherball (and the accompanying pole my dad set up in our backyard) when I was nine years old — I still remember it all these years later. So if you’re looking for the perfect gift idea your child will always remember, here’s some ideas that might just be perfect …

1. B. Pop-Arty Beads

This is jewelry making creativity at it’s finest. So many great pieces, at such a great price.

2. The Book with No Pictures by B.J. Novak

My mom recently bought this book for my daughter and she just loves it! I was a bit skeptical that a book without pictures would appeal to the littler kid set, but B.J. Novak killed it. This book gets kid humor just right. It’s a great introduction into chapter books, too.
Get it from Amazon, $11.51

3. Melissa & Doug Deluxe Alphabet Stamp Set

Stamp letters make learning to spell way more fun. They also double as a gift for yourself if you’re into crafts because these can be used for making gift tags, place setting cards, and more.

4. Magnatiles

These are seriously the best toys EVER. I was an early childhood teacher in my pre-mom/writer days and these toys were the only one kids never got bored with and wanted to play with on the daily. They’re a super fun, open-ended building toy that encourages imagination and the building of early STEM skills, and in my experience I found that boys and girls loved them with equal enthusiasm. They’re a bit pricey, but they will entertain your child for years. I promise, four year olds will love them just as much as eight year olds.

5. Cutie Tattootie Set

When I was a kid, my love of stuffed animals and temporary tattoos knew no bounds, and things haven’t really changed much with kids since then! Tattly and North American Bear Company teamed up to create this collaboration and it’s sure to be on many a tween’s wish list this holiday season. Each stuffed animal (there are dolls, foxes, sharks, monster and more!) comes pre-tattooed with matching tattoos for your child to wear. So cool!

6. Maxim Designed By You Dollhouse with Furniture

My daughter has a dollhouse similar to this, but by a different brand. While she adores it, it was also twice the price! I love this modern-looking wood dollhouse, complete with furniture. It’s got a great open layout that makes it perfect for playing with more than one kid at a time. It’s also modular, so kids can reconfigure the layout of the house each time they play. Brilliant!

7. Hape Quadrilla Marble Run “The Challenger”

This marble run set has plenty of awesome attachments so your little one can continue to expand their creativity as they grow. Marble runs are hours of entertainment and this wood design is much nicer to look at than its plastic counterparts.

8. LEGO Ultimate Building Set

Your little builder can build endless amounts of creations with this ultimate set!

9. Disney Infinity 2.0

Disney Infinity 2.0 is sure to be at the top of your little one’s wish list this holiday season. This action-adventure video game is double the fun for kids who love to collect figurines. The Infinity collectible figures are synchronized with the game, so your child can have a blast making characters from Disney and Pixar movies embark on awesome adventures together. Choose from the Marvel line or the classic characters for hours of interactive fun!
Get it from the Disney Store, starting at $59.99

10.  My Great Bean Bag Toss

When cold weather strikes and your kids are getting a bit stir crazy, you’ll be glad you got them this gift … because it’s a gift for you really. It’s a cool bean bag toss game that can fit easily in a doorway and then fold up for easy storage. It makes for good practice of gross motor skills, but in a contained area, so you don’t have to worry about your kids throwing balls in the house and breaking lamps!

11. Qwirkle Board Game

This is a game that the whole family can enjoy. Not only is it fairly simple for littler players, but it provides opportunity for strategy that older players will also appreciate.
Get it from Yoyo, $24.95

12. Seedling Activity Kits

I love the idea of giving kids the gift of an experience or activity in lieu of another toy. We are big fans of Seedling activity kits in our house. They come with everything your kid will need to tackle a craft or activity and they have a wide variety that will appeal to every interest and age group.
