My Love/Hate Relationship with Reunion Videos

I’m a sucker for those videos that pop up periodically of surprise homecomings of military members. It kills me to see their family’s reaction to their arrival.

Honestly, even if it’s not a surprise the videos still make me tear up. And if I’m really being honest, more often than not I’m doing the full on ugly cry/hiccuping sob by the end of the videos. It is especially moving when it’s a video of children seeing their parent for the first time in months.

The mother in me is so happy for them to have their mom or dad back. The wife in me is elated for the spouse, who has a partner and co-parent again. I can only imagine how they must feel while seeing the reunion between their parter and their children take place.

But, I also hate them because it makes me realize that even though I hate to admit it, I’m a total softie. No one tell my kids, okay?

The viral homecoming video of the day is this one, of a little girl being surprised by her dad during her Spelling Bee.

Are you crying yet? If not, here’s another one that’s sure to pull at your heartstrings:

The dog’s reaction when he sees his “person” gets me every time. It seems like he’s about to wag his tail straight off his body. If these videos don’t move you, even a little bit, I’m pretty sure you’re not human. Or, you’re just a stronger person than I.
