Reality TV Shows My Kids Love to Watch

TV is something that we love to enjoy as a family. We understand other people’s decisions to limit their kid’s television exposure, or even not let their kids watch at all.

That’s a lie, we don’t understand people who don’t have televisions, but we at least acknowledge your right to make that decision. So don’t write me any mean letters, okay?

Anyway, as I was saying, we like to watch TV as a family. There are a few reality TV shows that we especially enjoy, and whether it’s on DVR or in real time, we almost always sit down and enjoy them together.

Now don’t worry, we’re not talking Jersey Shore or even Toddlers and Tiaras. We’re talking good, clean, family oriented televisions shows that don’t leave us feeling like we lost a few points on the IQ scale or need to shower. Although, after some episodes of one of them (I’ll let you guess which one), we are a little skeeved out and have the creepy crawlies!

Check out our favorite reality TV Shows below and then tell me, what shows do you enjoy as a family?

  • Amazing Race 1 of 6
    Amazing Race
My kids love this show thanks to the race aspect. They love watching it all unfold and guessing who will come out on top for each episode. I love it because it gives us a great opportunity to discuss different parts of the world.

  • Billy the Exterminator 2 of 6
    Billy the Exterminator
This is easily my 6 year old's favorite show. He even convinced his little brother to dress up with him as Billy and Ricky for Halloween last year. They love seeing all of the crazy situations that Billy and crew have to deal with, they're often gleefully grossed out, and they especially love it when they get to watch them wrangle an alligator. My husband and I enjoy the different scenarios (some more than others) and the "characters" are entirely entertaining.

  • Deadliest Catch 3 of 6
    Deadliest Catch
This has long been one of my favorite shows, so it makes me insanely happy that my kids like it now, too. It's always exciting to see the dangerous scenarios that the boats encounter, and they love to watch the pots being pulled. Especially when they're chock full of crabs. I'm just hopeful that they don't develop a love for Bering Sea Crab Fishing because I don't think I could handle it if they were actually on a boat like that! Maybe we should start watching a show about Caribbean Deep Sea Fishing...

  • Man vs Food 4 of 6
    Man vs Food
In the interest of full disclosure, I feel that I should admit right off the bat that I have a tiny (huge) crush on the host, Adam Richman. I mean, he's kinda adorable, and I love food and how much fun would it be to go out to dinner with him? A girl can dream.
But my kids love the show because they literally can't wrap their minds around the amount of food he eats. They love to watch him eat 27 pancakes that are bigger than their heads. Aside from my school girl crush on Adam, I love it because it's actually been the kick in the pants that they needed to start EATING. They often have contests to see who can eat the most food the fastest. Considering their food issues, I'm all for it. Until someone chokes, that is.

  • Survivor 5 of 6
The queen bee of reality television, the boys totally love to watch Survivor. They pick their favorite tribes and contestants and love being able to (hopefully) cheer them on throughout the season. All four of us (the baby isn't in to it, yet) are always interested in the challenges, and my husband and I are doubly invested in the strategy behind all the crazy shenanigans.

  • So You Think You Can Dance 6 of 6
So You Think You Can Dance
Admittedly, my oldest son isn't in love with this show, but my 4 year old, who loves to dance, is. I love watching him take it all in. I can almost see his little brain absorbing all of the "moves" he sees the contestants perform. He might prefer to dance like Michael Jackson, but there's no harm in introducing him to other styles, too!
