It’s the most dreaded phrase parents hear every summer, usually muttered at least five times a day in a whiny voice that’s enough to make even the most patient mom lose. her. cool.
Yeah, we don’t get it either. How our kids can be bored when there are forts to be made, chocolate-chip cookies to be baked, and Lego creations to be imagined is beyond us.
But lucky for you, we have the perfect response.
“Then do something!”
And this is where Disney and ABC Television Group come in. They just announced their “Summer of Creativity” initiative, and we’re so on board.
With an emphasis on encouraging kids to use their imagination to help others, this program is the perfect answer to kids with a little too much time on their hands this summer. After all, what better way to keep their minds’ engaged than having them brainstorm ways to make their neighborhood a better place?
Whether they want to take advantage of their green thumb and create a community garden or gather up their artistic friends to paint a mural at the local library, Disney wants to help them make a difference.
One hundred $500 Youth Service America grants will be given out to support individual youth-led projects that help make communities greener, safer, smarter, healthier, or cleaner.
With the incredible imaginations of kids these days, we have no doubt these summer projects will be anything but a success.
For more information on how to participate, visit www.YSA.org/BeInspired. The last day to apply for one of these grants is August 10, 2015.More On
