Philly Mom Ticketed Because 2-Year-Old Son Peed in PublicCarolyn Castiglia
Remember the story about the Utah mom who stripped her kids naked and sat them on potty training toilets in the middle of a restaurant? She’s not the only mom who recently captured headlines thanks to a kid peeing in public. A Philly mother was ticketed this week because her 2-year-old son had to go to the bathroom so bad, he pulled his pants down on the street and started peeing on a lamppost.
The mom had asked if her son could use the bathroom in a nearby store but she was refused. When she saw her son, uh, doin’ it doggie style on the post, she urged him to go pee-pee in a grassy patch a few feet away instead. That’s when a police officer approached her and ticketed her for “telling” her son to urinate outside. The officer not only refused to acknowledge the totality of the situation, he told the mother he was ticketing her “for her own good” so that she could learn a lesson about not allowing her children to expose themselves on the street. After all, he suggested, what if there had been a creeper nearby – or, you know, an overzealous cop on a power trip?
Earlier tonight I appeared on HLN’s Evening Express to discuss the story. Here’s my conversation with hosts Ryan Smith, Isha Sesay and Clark Howard. Let me know in the comments if you agree with our conclusion:
