Prop 8 Funder Doug Manchester Files For Divorce

Papa Doug ManchesterDoug Manchester, the California businessman “who helped finance the 2008 fight against same-sex marriage in California” is getting a divorce, according to the San Diego Union Tribune.

The paper says that the divorce could “complicate Manchester’s finances” and possibly give him trouble in a major development project on the San Diego waterfront.

Mr. Manchester, who refers to himself as “Papa Doug” on his own website (ironically that’s also his drag name — KIDDING! JUST A JOKE!), is engaged in a financial battle with his wife Elizabeth. Doug has been “allegedly draining the couple’s shared accounts and stealing her mail.” There is a lot of money involved here, including “an $8.2-million tax refund check” that was made out to the couple, which Doug allegedly deposited into his own account. The soon to be former Mrs. Manchester has said that she needs $131,625 a month for expenses, which includes private school tuition for their 10 grandchildren. (I love how that’s her responsibility, but not his. And by “love” I mean “dislike.”) I posted a list of the monthlies at DaddyTips.com.

As one site points out, “Manchester said he made his Prop 8 donation to ‘preserve marriage’ because of ‘my Catholic faith and longtime affiliation with the Catholic Church’ — the very same church that condemns divorce.” Manchester donated $125,000 to help pass Proposition 8, which “restricted the definition of marriage to opposite-sex couples, and eliminated same-sex couples’ right to marry” and took effect on November 5, 2008.

I’m not a very religious person, admittedly. But sometimes it’s difficult not to believe in Karma.
