Cake smash photo shoots are one of the most popular photo ops for babies and toddlers, but why should they have all the fun? These photo shoots prove that cake smashes are always a good idea, whether you’re 12 or 360 months!
Turning 30? Clearly, it’s time to celebrate your big milestone and update everyone on all of your favorite foods, which of course include sushi and mac and cheese. (Obviously.)
Jaressi Escobar Dowd’s photo shoot with Anna Kulyk Photography has all the essentials that you need to enter the third decade of life: cake, bubbles, balloons, and of course, wine. I might be crazy, but I’m starting to see a theme here …
“Aw, how old is your daughter?”
“She’s 432 months!”
Christina Foley-Newman, a 31-year-old teacher from Texas, tells Babble that turning 30 was a “big deal” for her. Despite the fact that she had been “adulting” for what seemed like forever already, there was something about officially hitting that milestone in her life that made her want to embrace the beauty of it all. And what better way to do that then with an epic cake smash?
“I shared my idea with my mom, and she loved it,” Newman explains. “She made my cake, outfit, everything. She refurbishes furniture as a hobby, so that would explain the dresser and mirror in photo. Free props are the best props, so we utilized them.”
Shannon Squires, 34, a fine art children and family photographer from Colorado Springs, says she’s still laughing about the photos she did with her friend, Sabrina, even two years later.
“I think it’s fun as moms to just get out and let go, although you don’t have to be a mom to do these,” Squires explains about the recent popularity of adult cake smashes. “I think as women we are expected to act, look, and be a certain way. These adult cake smash sessions let the wild side out a bit and allows us to break out of that box, even if its only for an hour for photos.”
Oh, and one tip from Squires if you decide to do your own photo shoot? She recommends not choosing a chocolate cake. Yes, because it will look like poop.
What’s the only thing missing from these photo shoots that include booze, booze, and more booze? Yup, you guessed it — beer.
Oh look, more wine.
Of course, there’s no reason for the ladies to have all the fun throwing back those slices of cake and washing them down with copious amounts of adult apple juice. There are plenty of photo ops for the guys, too. This birthday boy definitely knows how to put the “smash” in a birthday cake smash. Maybe he’s not very good at sharing?
In summary, what we have learned here is that cake is always appropriate, especially when you turn 720 months old. We should all definitely drink to that.
