Mom Makes Toddler’s Dream Come True with DIY ‘Trolls’ Costume — and the Internet Goes Wild

When it comes to Halloween costumes, parents have two, maybe three years tops to dress their kids up as they want them to be.

For me, it was all the adorably fluffy animal costumes that I could get my hands on. There was an adorable elephant, a bunny, a lizard, and even a peacock … until my kids finally told me to back off the animals. But this handmade costume of the Trolls movie’s very own Poppy might just win the “Best Halloween Costume” of all time.

One Ohio mom and her gorgeous little 1-year-old daughter Abrielle have taken the internet by storm for good reason. Chiquia Waters created a Poppy costume for her daughter because she loves the 2016 movie Trolls so much, she knew it would be a hit.

“This is the very first costume I have made,” Waters tells Babble. Though you could never tell, she fashioned the entire spectacular costume for just $30 in only two days! I can’t even sew on a button, so this is seriously impressive.

And if you think the costume itself is the cutest thing you’ve ever seen, Abrielle running around in it is enough to make you consider having another child.

I know, it’s too much.

Trolls is a favorite movie for many kids, including my son. I think he’s watched it so many times, our entire family could recite it from memory (including our cat). And the lovable Poppy is the perfect heroine to emulate, with her positive outlook and commitment to her friends. No wonder Abrielle loves her so much!

So how is Waters planning to compete with her Poppy costume next year? “I guess that would be determined by what character she is obsessing about next year. Princess Poppy is such a cute character; it was so fun taking on the challenge to portray her,” Waters said.

And if the homemade costume alone wasn’t impressive enough, actress Anna Kendrick who voiced Poppy for the animated film retweeted Abrielle’s picture, saying, “My heart is bursting from cute.” It’s pretty easy to see why.

Waters tells Babble she didn’t imagine “in a million years” that her costume would get as much attention as it has. “My goal was to make her the cutest Princess Poppy I could. It feels great knowing that so many people are loving what I made,” she said.

Here’s hoping Waters continues to share Abrielle’s Halloween costumes with us for many years to come.
