Mickey and Friends Surprise Deaf Child at Disneyland by Signing Back

Editor’s Note: Babble is a part of The Walt Disney Company.

Disneyland is known as “The Happiest Place on Earth” for a reason. It’s touching experiences that make this statement so true — like one just last month. While a young boy visited Disneyland Resort, he received the surprise of a lifetime: a special moment with none other than Mickey Mouse (and his friends).

Olive Crest, a child abuse prevention agency, shared a video of this happy kiddo approaching Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto for a photo like any kid at Disneyland would do. This sweet boy mostly signs, so it was the shock of his life to see the characters respond to him in sign language as well. It’s truly a beautiful sight to behold — a wonderful Disneyland sign language surprise.

I spoke to a representative of the company who explained:

“Every year our agency sends our foster and adoptive families in Southern California to Disneyland for Foster Care Awareness Month. Here, they are able to spend time with their families and connect with our staff members and case workers.”

Olive Crest commented on the video, which has since gone viral with 390K views, to say:

“This kid is the most incredible child I’ve ever met. He is mostly deaf, so the ASL translator is behind him, signing to the characters so they can copy her and communicate with the little guy. He is not a big hugger, so that hug for Minnie is something special.”

It’s so heartwarming to see this small act of kindness go such a long way to bring a bit of Disney magic to a child.
